BREAKING: Court Finds Nnamdi Kanu Guilty on Terrorism Charges as Judgment Continues in Abuja

A Federal High Court in Abuja has declared the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, guilty on multiple terrorism-related charges brought against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Justice James Omotosho, who is currently delivering judgment in the high-profile case, ruled that the prosecution presented credible and sufficient evidence to establish Kanu’s involvement in terrorism, membership of a proscribed organisation, and incitement of violence.

The judge described Kanu as “a false defender of the South-East”, stating that his actions had contributed to widespread bloodshed.
He added that Kanu is “a terrorist and must be treated as such without fear or favour.”

Justice Omotosho noted that the court was compelled to rely on the prosecution’s evidence since the defendant chose not to enter a defence, instead opting to rest his case entirely on the prosecution’s submissions.

While the prosecution filed seven counts in total, the judge specifically found Kanu guilty of belonging to a proscribed organisation (IPOB), inciting followers to commit acts of violence, and links to the Eastern Security Network (ESN)—offences covered under counts three, four, and five.

According to the court, Kanu’s broadcasts played a significant role in fueling attacks that led to the killing of security personnel and the destruction of public infrastructure, including police stations in various parts of the country.

Justice Omotosho is still reading the remaining portions of the judgment as proceedings continue.
