The traditional ruler of Yelwata community in Benue State, HRH Kumaga Jor, has appealed to U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene and stop what he described as the ongoing genocide against Christians in Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists in Makurdi on Thursday, the monarch commended Trump for his recent warning of possible U.S. military action, saying it brought renewed hope to persecuted Christian communities across the country.
Jor, whose community was attacked in June 2025 by suspected Fulani gunmen — an incident that claimed over 200 lives — said the killings in Benue and other parts of Nigeria were largely carried out by “Muslim terrorists.”
He urged the U.S. government to expedite action, stressing that the situation has reached a breaking point.
“The situation remains dire as killings continue almost daily, with many villages sacked and occupied by the terrorists,” the royal father lamented.
He added that thousands of displaced residents from his domain and neighbouring communities are now taking refuge in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps across Benue State.
The monarch thanked President Trump for his concern and called on the international community to act swiftly to prevent further bloodshed.
