The BEGE Foundation has expressed deep sorrow over the recent loss of lives and destruction of property in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas and surrounding communities in Plateau State.

In a press release issued in Jos on February 27, 2026, the Foundation said the tragic incidents have shaken communities and revived painful memories of past violence, warning against actions that could undermine years of peacebuilding efforts.

The group strongly condemned the killings and attacks on communities, commuters, and innocent citizens, while extending condolences to families who lost loved ones and prayers for healing and strength for those affected.

The Foundation urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, while calling on security agencies to urgently investigate the incidents and bring perpetrators to justice.

According to the statement, failure to ensure accountability could reinforce a cycle of impunity, reprisals, and recurring violence. It emphasized that protecting lives and property is a fundamental right of all citizens.

The Foundation called on government authorities, community leaders, and civil society groups to support affected families and strengthen efforts toward healing, reconciliation, and conflict prevention.

It stressed that citizens must be able to live, work, and travel freely without fear, urging continuous dialogue, community engagement, and peaceful democratic participation as the pathway to stability and development.

The statement also warned residents against incitement, misinformation, and actions capable of escalating tensions, encouraging communities to uphold shared values and peaceful coexistence.

As Muslims and Christians observe the fasting season, the Foundation urged reflection, compassion, and renewed commitment to peace, unity, and mutual respect.

The statement was signed by the Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr. Godwin A. Okoko, who reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to dialogue, reconciliation, and community peacebuilding across Plateau State.
