The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Peter Akpe as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.

The approval was granted during plenary on Tuesday, formally confirming Akpe’s elevation to the position after his nomination by the state government.

The vacancy arose following the death of the former deputy governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who reportedly slumped and died in December 2025.

Ewhrudjakpo was laid to rest on January 30, 2026, in his hometown of Ofoni, located in Sagbama Local Government Area.

Before his nomination, Akpe, a cleric, served as Chief of Staff to Governor Douye Diri.
