Anthrax Outbreak Confirmed in Zamfara State, Federal Ministry Issues Alert

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has confirmed an outbreak of Anthrax in Zamfara State, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant.

This was made public in a statement issued by Ben Bem Goong, the Director of Information and Public Relations of the ministry.

Anthrax, caused by the Bacillus anthracis bacterium, is a zoonotic disease that can impact various warm-blooded animals, including cattle, sheep, goats, horses, and wildlife, as well as humans.

While Anthrax is preventable through strategies such as risk assessments, surveys, and ring vaccination of at-risk animals, prompt detection and intervention are essential to curb its spread.

A statement issued by Ben Bem Goong, the Director of Information and Public Relations, emphasized the ministry’s dedication to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a swift and effective response to the outbreak.
