Former Gombe State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Nafiu Bala, has debunked reports of his resignation from the party, describing a purported resignation letter dated May 18, 2025, as a deliberate fabrication intended to mislead the public.
In a personally signed statement released on Friday, Bala categorically denied authoring or submitting any resignation letter, insisting that the document in circulation was fake and orchestrated by “mischievous elements” both within and outside the party.
“I am writing to address a matter of utmost importance that has recently surfaced in the public domain — a fabricated letter of resignation purportedly authored by me, dated 18 May 2025,” Bala stated. “This document, circulated by certain mischievous elements, is entirely false and without merit.”
Bala emphasized that he remains the Deputy National Chairman of the ADC and accused those behind the forged letter of attempting to undermine the party’s internal stability.
He highlighted inconsistencies in the letter, particularly its date and content, which he said contradict known public records. Citing a recent ADC event, Bala noted that on July 2, 2025 — weeks after the supposed resignation — his predecessor, Chief Ralph Nwosu, publicly acknowledged his continued role in the party during a membership induction ceremony at the Yar’Adua Conference Centre, Abuja.
“During that gathering, Chief Nwosu explicitly stated, ‘Nafiu Bala did not resign as the Deputy National Chairman,’ which directly discredits the circulated falsehood,” Bala added.
Further discrediting the letter, Bala pointed out that all his official correspondence is printed on the party’s official letterhead bearing the ADC’s insignia, unlike the alleged resignation, which appeared on plain, unmarked paper.
“This blatant difference in presentation undermines the authenticity of the document and further exposes the deceptive intentions behind it,” he said.
Bala also raised concerns over the legitimacy of individuals now claiming leadership roles within the party, warning against unconstitutional power grabs. He reminded party stakeholders of the ADC constitution, which stipulates that only financial members with at least one year of active participation are eligible to vie for leadership positions.
“The integrity of our party’s governance structures must be preserved, and any actions taken outside of these formal processes cannot be recognized as legitimate,” he cautioned.
He urged members of the ADC, supporters, and the general public to remain vigilant and resist any attempts to destabilize the party through misinformation and internal sabotage.
“Our party is built on the principles of democracy, transparency, and integrity. I reaffirm my loyalty to the African Democratic Congress and its mission to build a united and prosperous Nigeria,” Bala concluded. “Together, we will continue to pursue our shared vision and serve the people we represent.”
