Former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has criticized the Bola Tinubu administration’s handling of Nigeria’s foreign policy following reports that China warned the United States against interfering in Nigeria’s affairs.

Reacting to the development via X, Garba said those celebrating China’s stance were being “myopic,” adding that the move would not prevent the U.S. from pursuing its national interests.

He wrote, “China backed Nigeria and warned the U.S. against internal interference. Some are celebrating this based on myopic mindset. So did China back Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaddafi, and Assad — did that stop U.S. intervention in those countries?”

Garba further argued that China’s support for nations like Iran and Gaza had never stopped American military actions where strategic interests were at stake.

According to him, Nigeria must take responsibility for its diplomatic posture instead of relying on empty statements from foreign powers.

“The truth is, when it comes to international issues, no country can back you against any other superpower beyond strongly worded press conferences, except when there are strategic interests involved,” he said.

Garba added that several Chinese companies in Nigeria have suspended operations due to unpaid government contracts, noting that the Chinese government is aware of the situation.

He described Nigeria’s current foreign policy as “the laziest” in the nation’s history, stressing that it has isolated the country even from its immediate neighbors.

“As it stands, there is no country, not even our neighbors like Niger, Cameroun, or Benin, that can come for us in the event of any situation. Chad has even closed its borders against us,” he warned.

Garba concluded by urging the Tinubu administration to “work its way out of the mess it created,” emphasizing that propaganda alone cannot restore Nigeria’s global image.
