Harrison Gwamnishu, a Nigerian activist renowned for assisting in the rescue of kidnap victims, has publicly apologized following allegations of misappropriating funds intended for a ransom payment.

The activist was arrested in December 2025 after being accused of stealing over N5 million meant to rescue a kidnapped couple, Mr. and Mrs. Segiru, in Edo State. He was granted bail by the Edo State High Court on December 19, 2025.

Since his release, social media users, including prominent figure VeryDarkMan, had criticized Harrison for collecting money from individuals for rescue operations without proper accountability.

Breaking his silence on Saturday, Harrison issued a public apology via a video on his Instagram page, acknowledging lapses in managing resources entrusted to him.

“Good morning, my name is Harrison Gwamnishu. I’m here to apologise to everyone I have wronged… in the course of my duty I have made mistakes. I have not been well accountable in managing resources maybe given to me to handle for some cases, I’m sincerely sorry,” he said.

He specifically apologized to a woman who sent him N600,000 for a rescue operation and to a man named Franklin, whose case he delegated to another party without proper communication. Harrison assured that he is working to repay all funds owed.

Harrison also addressed VeryDarkMan directly, expressing appreciation for his advocacy and acknowledging past missteps in resolving complaints.

“I hold you in high esteem. From day one, I have never seen you as a bad person… Although I tried to resolve it, maybe I did not manage it very well. I want to also thank you for speaking for Nigerians,” he said.

Harrison concluded by inviting anyone else he may have wronged to reach out to him, promising to resolve outstanding issues.

The apology marks his first public statement since the allegations and his subsequent release on bail.
