A member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Dennis Rowland Chinwendu, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP).

Chinwendu, who represents Isiala Ngwa South constituency, announced his defection during Tuesday’s plenary session.

This is coming one week after he was suspended by his PDP Ward leaders for alleged anti-party activities, including endorsing Governor Alex Otti for a second tenure in office.

The legislator is from the same constituency as Governor Alex Otti, raising widespread speculation about protecting his political fortune in 2027.

Reacting to the development, Abia PDP Publicity Secretary, Eric Ikwuagwu, told DAILY POST that the party was unaware of Chinwendu’s defection.

He maintained that the purported suspension of the Isiala Ngwa South representative by his Ward last week was masterminded by the Chinwendu himself to justify his planned defection.
