Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has insisted that the recent meeting between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and former Military President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB)was focused on the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Thursday, Fayose expressed amusement at the denial issued by Atiku’s media aide, Phrank Shaibu, and warned that he would disclose further details of the meeting if Atiku fails to publicly disown Shaibu’s statement within 48 hours. He specifically hinted at revelations concerning Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
Fayose said, “I saw the response of one Paul Ibe, one of the Media Aides to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to my release on what transpired at his meeting in Minna, with Governor Seyi Makinde, and I can’t but be amused. However, because of my respect for Atiku, I will assume he did not authorise the press statement. I expect that after seeing it, he will within 48 hours issue a rebuttal. Should Atiku not publicly disown the statement within the next 48 hours, I will have no option but to spill more beans—particularly what was said about Wike—and by then, I will do so without any atom of respect for him. Till then, we keep our gunpowder dry.”
Earlier, Tori News reported that Fayose claimed the meeting in Minna, Niger State, involved discussions about Makinde emerging as Atiku’s running mate in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Reacting, Atiku, through Shaibu, described Fayose’s claims as a “shameless concoction, a distortion, and cheap propaganda.” The former PDP presidential candidate stressed that he has never engaged in secretive horse trading, vice presidential negotiations, or transactional politics, and urged the public to disregard the report.
