In continuation of his operational visits to Defence Headquarters-led missions, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, visited frontline troops under Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State. On Friday, January 3, 2025, the CDS was in Mangu, Plateau State, where he engaged with troops of Sector 8 and assessed their operational readiness.
During the visit, General Musa emphasized the importance of professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights in the conduct of military operations. He acknowledged the efforts of the troops, commending their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region despite numerous challenges. The CDS urged the personnel to remain focused on their mission while avoiding distractions or engagements in illegal activities, including the fabrication or trade of weapons.
As part of his inspection, General Musa reviewed a cache of locally made arms and ammunition seized during recent operations in the area. He highlighted the military’s commitment to ending the production and circulation of illegal arms while exploring ways to harness the skills of law-abiding citizens for local production of military-grade equipment.
The visit also served as an opportunity for the CDS to inspect the conditions of the troops and assure them of continued support from the government. He reiterated that additional resources, including advanced weaponry, vehicles, and welfare improvements, were on the way to further enhance their operational capabilities.
This visit to Mangu followed an earlier stop in Kaduna State, where the CDS engaged with troops of the newly established 2 National Mission Brigade in Samaru, Zangon Kataf. General Musa’s tour underscores his dedication to ensuring that frontline personnel remain equipped, motivated, and focused on the overarching goal of securing peace across the country.
Accompanying the CDS on his visits was the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation Safe Haven, Major General AE Abubakar. Together, they reinforced the message of teamwork and inter-agency collaboration as critical components of achieving lasting peace and security in Plateau and Kaduna States.
General Musa concluded his visit by reiterating the military’s commitment to making 2025 a year of significant progress in securing Nigeria and urged citizens to continue supporting the armed forces in their mission to protect lives and property.
