The 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, as part of its ongoing commitment to recognizing exceptional performance, presented electric motorcycles to outstanding soldiers during a ceremony held at the Division’s headquarters, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Rukuba, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
Major General AE Abubakar, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), led the presentation ceremony. In his address, he emphasized that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General OO Oloyede, which prioritizes sound administration and troop welfare.
According to Major General Abubakar, the program builds on a foundation laid in 2022 by his predecessor, Major General AB Ibrahim, who introduced similar recognition efforts. The provision of electric motorcycles, he explained, reflects a strategic move to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while promoting environmental sustainability.
“These motorcycles are efficient and eco-friendly, capable of a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour and covering a distance of 100 kilometers after a two-hour charge. This initiative not only supports a cleaner, greener Nigeria but also reduces transportation costs for personnel within Maxwell Khobe Cantonment,” he stated.
A dedicated charging room has been constructed at the headquarters, enabling personnel to conveniently charge the motorcycles while at work.
The GOC highlighted other recent interventions aimed at improving troop welfare, including renovations, the construction of new accommodations and office complexes, and additional resources to support the Division’s operations.
He reaffirmed that recognizing and rewarding exceptional service has now been institutionalized within the 3 Division. “Troops are encouraged to maintain their dedication to service and excellence as hard work will continue to be recognized and rewarded,” he added.
On behalf of the recipients, Warrant Officer Ibrahim Fidelis expressed gratitude for the initiative, promising that the electric motorcycles would be used judiciously. “This kind gesture motivates us to be more committed to our duties,” he said.
The event also featured a special presentation to Assistant Warrant Officer (AWO) Abubakar Umar, the outgoing Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the Division.
Key moments of the ceremony included the formal presentation of motorcycle keys to the beneficiaries and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
The electric motorcycle initiative underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to fostering excellence, prioritizing troop welfare, and promoting environmental sustainability within its ranks. This effort reflects a broader vision of a modern, efficient, and eco-conscious military force.
