The Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to returning internally displaced persons (IDPs) and communities to their original homes.
Governor Mutfwang made this pledge through his Senior Special Assistant on Middle Belt Nationalists, Hon. Dan Kwada, at a seminar organized by the Conference of Autochthonous Ethnic Communities Development Association (CONAECDA) on Saturday in Jos.
Kwada emphasized that the governor remains dedicated to fulfilling his campaign promise to resettle displaced persons, revealing that significant progress has already been made. He also called on CONAECDA leaders to continue fostering unity among ethnic groups to drive sustainable development, assuring them of the government’s continued support.
“In preparation for their resettlement, the state government has provided farming equipment to assist displaced persons in cultivating crops, ensuring they can return to a life of self-reliance,” Kwada added.
Dr. Zuwanhu Bonket, National President of CONAECDA, commended Governor Mutfwang’s policies and emphasized the association’s alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of resettling displaced persons across the country.
National Coordinator Dr. Joseph Gwankat, who also leads the Mwaghavu Development Association, praised the Plateau State government for complementing CONAECDA’s activities. He lamented the severe impact of attacks on the group’s members, noting that CONAECDA represents communities from 15 northern states.
Former Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Ochekpe, highlighted the persistent displacement caused by attacks on communities and urged citizens to remain vigilant. She called on the government to enhance its efforts to protect lives and property.
Similarly, Lt. Col. Umar Abdullahi, representing the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3rd Division, Rukuba, appealed to Nigerians to provide timely and actionable intelligence to security agencies. He emphasized that such cooperation is crucial for preventing attacks and exposing criminal elements.
Lt. Col. Abdullahi reaffirmed the military’s commitment to safeguarding lives, urging all stakeholders to collaborate in curbing insecurity across the region.
The event underscored the shared goal of restoring displaced communities and fostering unity among Plateau’s diverse ethnic groups. Governor Mutfwang’s administration remains steadfast in its resolve to create a safe and thriving environment for all citizens.
