The 2024 edition of Tin City Fashion Week (TCFW) began today with a modeling seminar at Novel Suits, Jos, as participants gear up for the highly anticipated grand showcase on Sunday, November 17. The seminar featured renowned runway coach and costumier, Adebayo Adegbe, CEO Modela Couture Agency, also known as Bayo Modela, who delivered a masterclass on “Modeling as a Career,” offering aspiring models practical insights and guidance on building sustainable careers in the fashion industry.
Speaking at the seminar, Modela highlighted the potential of modeling as a lucrative career, urging participants to view it with the same seriousness as professions like law or medicine. He also addressed challenges faced by Nigerian models, including low remuneration and lack of proper career planning, while encouraging them to seek structured management and aim for international standards.
“Modeling is a mega business globally,” said Modela. “With proper planning, Nigerian models can turn their passion into a profitable career, earning well and making lasting impacts.” He went on to groom the models on some professional rudiments.
Christabel Bentu, CEO of TCFW, expressed excitement about the event’s progress, noting the importance of the seminar as a foundation for the main event. “The seminar and training sessions prepare our models to walk the runway like true professionals, enhancing the quality of the show,” she said.
This year’s fashion week, marking its fourth edition, will prominently feature designs from over 10 designers, made from the famous ‘goudo’ fabric, a unique material deeply rooted in Plateau’s cultural heritage. Fidelis Usigbe, creative director of Del Africa Fashion House, revealed that 70% of his collection will use ‘goudo’ fabric. “We’re showcasing Plateau’s creativity through ‘goudo’ and aiming to eventually produce 100% locally-made collections,” he said.
Other designers such as Mudasir Ibrahim, CEO Kawanda Picha, and Nana Abubakar Fari, CEO Lesbeaux Couture, shared their excitement about showcasing their collections. Stating that they will be bringing culture, and the rich heritage of the goudo as the ideal of this show has encouraged promoting cultural legacy.
The grand showcase, scheduled for Sunday at Novel Suits and Resort, promises a night of glamour, creativity, and cultural celebration. Fashion icons, including Richard Mofe-Damijo, are expected to grace the event, adding star power to the occasion. Attendees will witness innovative designs that blend traditional fabrics with modern aesthetics, showcasing Plateau’s growing influence in the fashion industry.
As the countdown continues, TCFW 2024 is poised to cement Jos as a rising hub for fashion, culture, and creativity, offering an unforgettable experience for designers, models, and fashion enthusiasts alike.
