Alhaji Salis Abdulsalam Mohammad Baiyee, a prominent peace advocate, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening structures that promote peace in Plateau State and across Nigeria. Speaking during the celebration of his 60th birthday on November 17, 2024, at the Odilin’s Event Center in Jos, Abdulsalam emphasized the urgent need for communities to actively engage in peace advocacy.
Highlighting the challenges of hypocrisy and a “conspiracy of silence” in addressing peace-related issues, Abdulsalam called for honest dialogue and consistent efforts to foster harmony. “In all human endeavors, peace must come first. It should start from within our homes, our communities, and our minds,” he stated during an interview with journalists.
The celebrant marked his milestone birthday by launching a book chronicling his life experiences and contributions to society. Reflecting on his motivation for peace initiatives, he explained, “The drive to impact lives runs in my family history. It started with my mother, and my name, Abdulsalam, is synonymous with peace.”
He expressed gratitude for his journey, saying he felt fulfilled with good health and loving children. Abdulsalam also shared his desire to be remembered as someone who brought happiness and joy to others. “I want people to see me and feel happiness, and in turn, that gives me joy,” he remarked.
The event’s highlight was the unveiling and launch of his book, which serves as a testament to his life’s work and dedication to peacebuilding.
As he enters this new chapter, Abdulsalam’s message underscores the importance of collective responsibility in creating a peaceful society where dialogue and unity take precedence over division.
