Security operatives from 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN, in a series of intelligence-driven operations, arrested suspected gunrunners and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition, and motorcycles in Plateau State on November 17, 2024.
In the first operation, conducted at Kwanan Fulani in Jos South Local Government Area, security agents intercepted a notorious gunrunner transporting weapons to Farin Lamba in the same area. The operation led to the recovery of one fabricated rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 15 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, a knife, and a motorcycle. The suspect is currently in custody and has made confessions aiding ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend accomplices.
Two hours later, at the same location, security personnel intercepted another group of four suspected gunrunners. A search uncovered one AK-47 rifle, one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one round of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, three motorcycles, and a jackknife. The suspects and recovered items have been handed over to security agencies for further investigation.
Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the Military Information Officer for Operation SAFE HAVEN, reaffirmed the division’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property within the Joint Operations Area. He urged the public to continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies to help eradicate criminal elements in the region.
The operations underscore the military’s resolve to combat arms trafficking and enhance security across Plateau State.
