Shendam, Plateau State — October 27, 2024 — The Long Gamai of the Gamai Nation, His Royal Highness Miskoom Martin Mudu’utrie Shaldas III, has called for stronger unity among the sub-Gamai groups to bolster community cohesion and cultural heritage. He made this appeal on Sunday during a visit by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Gamai Bible Translation and Literacy Project, Nda Noetsen Kevin Kwaplong, along with board members and organizers of the dedication and presentation of the Gamai Bible and Literacy Project. The event followed a Thanksgiving Mass led by the Central Working Committee, chaired by Nda Kurnajam Joseph Ari, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Shendam.
Commending the project team, HRH Miskoom Shaldas III emphasized that the event’s success was rooted in the unity demonstrated by the sub-Gamai groups. He remarked, “Unity is key in whatever we need to achieve,” highlighting that such collaboration should serve as a model for future projects within the community.
Expressing his gratitude, Miskoom Shaldas III lauded the resilience, commitment, and synergy of the organizers, which he said showcased the best of the Gamai spirit. He expressed hope that future events would continue to reflect these positive attributes.
The paramount ruler also proposed a review of the multiple cultural festivals held by sub-Gamai groups, noting that hosting four to six festivals on the same day diminishes their significance and overall impact. He suggested that a coordinated approach could enhance the festivals’ prestige and encourage greater participation from both the Gamai people and their guests.
Miskoom Shaldas III reaffirmed his full support for the Gamai Bible Translation and Literacy Project and urged the team to ensure the completion and production of the Old Testament. He also stressed the importance of advancing the Gamai Literacy Project to promote and develop the Gamai language, especially for younger generations and those less familiar with the dialect.
In response, Nda Noetsen Kevin Kwaplong expressed the board’s gratitude to the Long Gamai for his unwavering support, which was instrumental in the success of the project.
The event underscored the commitment of the Gamai leadership to preserving their language and fostering unity among the community’s diverse sub-groups.
