In a notable display of civic engagement, the Plateau State local government elections saw high voter turnout across the state, particularly in Barkin Ladi, where residents showed strong support for the electoral process.
Mr. Jim Pam Wayas, Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), expressed satisfaction in an interview with journalists while casting his vote at Zabot Mai Idon Toro 2 in Girring Ward. Highlighting the importance of local government elections, he commented on the vibrant participation, saying, “There’s massive turnout. People here are politically oriented, and they know who they want to represent them.”
Wayas also expressed confidence in the PDP’s popularity in the area, sharing that recent campaign efforts had reinforced the party’s presence in Barkin Ladi. “The people here are predominantly PDP supporters,” he said, citing past victories and widespread support for PDP policies and leadership.
The Traditional Head of the Foron community, Gyang Rwang Pam, the Gwom Fo, also commended the peaceful conduct of the elections and the impressive turnout of voters. He stated that he was optimistic the local election would produce credible leaders committed to addressing critical community issues.
Wayas praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his commitment to a transparent and inclusive election, noting, “This is one of the freest and fairest local government elections we’ve seen.” He recalled that in previous years, some communities had been excluded from participating. “Thankfully, now everyone is included, and we’re grateful to Governor Mutfwang for this.”
Addressing infrastructure challenges, Wayas highlighted the need for improved roads and water access in Foron, emphasizing that reliable infrastructure would drive development and attract investment. “Our road network is in poor condition, and water scarcity remains a significant issue. We’re lobbying the government to ensure Foron receives the development it deserves,” he added.
With the local government elections proceeding smoothly and with high engagement, both Wayas and the Gwom Fo expressed optimism about the future, underscoring that the election would empower local communities through effective and representative leadership.
