The city of Jos is set to dazzle locals and visitors alike this December as it transforms into a premier Christmas destination with the 2024 Jos Family Christmas Festival. Unveiled today at the Usuji World Events Centre, the festival promises a month of vibrant activities, entertainment, and cultural showcases, positioning Jos as a must-visit location for the Christmas season.
The Plateau State Tourism Corporation General Manager, Hon. Chuwang Pwajok, highlighted the festival’s vision to elevate Plateau’s tourism landscape. “This festival will drive tourist traffic to Plateau, allowing visitors to experience our unique landscape, rich culture, and hospitality. Instead of brief stops, we’re creating immersive experiences where visitors can connect with our people, culture, and environment,” he said. The goal is to establish Jos as a holiday hotspot, bringing economic growth and supporting local businesses.
Nigerian rapper and Honorary Special Adviser on Entertainment and Creativity for Plateau State, M.I. Abaga, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, describing it as a key step in promoting Plateau’s artistic and cultural significance. “This is an opportunity for global recognition of our arts, culture, and people,” he stated, emphasizing that such partnerships could lead to significant growth and development within the community.
Hon. Musa Ashoms, Plateau’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, encouraged Nigerians to consider Plateau as their holiday destination. “Our climate is perfect, our people are welcoming, and our landscape is breathtaking,” he said. “This year, the Christmas season will feature bike rides, hiking, cultural displays, and traditional Christmas carols, among other activities. The state is fully prepared with enhanced security measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.”
Echoing this sentiment, Sir Rume Ogane, CEO of Eco Systems Africa and a key festival partner, introduced a new campaign, “My Jos Is Safe.” He urged the public and media to promote the true narrative of safety and vibrancy in Jos, reinforcing the city’s appeal for tourism and investment.
With enhanced security, diverse entertainment, and a commitment to economic growth, the Jos Family Christmas Festival is set to make Plateau State a festive hub for visitors from around the world.
