Hon. Fom Dalyop Gwottson, the former representative for Jos South in the Plateau State House of Assembly, has praised the peaceful conduct of the ongoing local government elections and the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission’s (PLASIEC) commitment to a fair and transparent process.
Speaking to journalists at his polling unit in Kuru B, Gwottson expressed gratitude for the opportunity for Plateau citizens to elect their local leaders. “I appreciate God for this day, giving the people of Plateau a chance to choose their councillors and chairmen,” he said. “It’s been a long time coming, and I’m grateful my people finally have the chance to select those who will represent them.”
Addressing concerns about technical issues with voting machines, Gwottson noted that PLASIEC’s guidelines clearly allow for manual accreditation and voting if machine problems arise. “I’ve been informed by my team that these guidelines are in place, and it’s essential that voters and officials follow them. I’ll be visiting polling units to ensure everyone is aware and that the process remains smooth,” he said.
Gwottson, a PDP leader, expressed confidence in his party’s preparations, emphasizing the strong support PDP has historically received in Jos South. “In my time in the House of Assembly, I won with 95,000 votes—unprecedented numbers. My people understand our policies and support us wholeheartedly. We’re ready, and our people have yearned for this opportunity.”
Encouraging voters to participate peacefully, he emphasized the importance of the election for local communities. “This is a local election, a chance for the people to choose those closest to them in governance. I urge everyone to go out, cast their votes peacefully, and respect the process.”
When asked about the impact of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s initiatives, Gwottson highlighted the governor’s contributions, including the distribution of affordable fertilizer, improvements in the transport and health sectors, and infrastructure development. “Governor Mutfwang’s actions have resonated with the people. In a tough economy, he’s focused on providing resources like fertilizer to help people farm and improve their lives,” Gwottson said. “People are excited; there’s a sense of hope in the air, and we’re seeing high voter turnout as a result.”
Reflecting on his own contributions to the community, Gwottson mentioned his efforts to empower local residents, including providing transformers, distributing fertilizers, and supporting educational opportunities for children. “I’m committed to ensuring every child in my community goes to school and that no one is left behind,” he stated.
Gwottson concluded by emphasizing his deep connection to the community. “I live here, I know the needs of my people, and I will continue to support them. That’s why you see the strong support here for our leadership,” he said.
