The final match of the Lagos Christian Cup took place yesterday at the popular 721 Sports Field in Festac Town, Lagos, drawing excitement from fans and showcasing impressive football talent. The highly anticipated game ended with a 3-2 victory for Place of Honour (PoH) against King’s Royal Palace (KRP), in a match filled with energy, tension, and surprising twists.
Although King’s Royal Palace dominated much of the play, football once again proved to be unpredictable. Place of Honour secured the win, largely thanks to the heroics of their goalkeeper, who was pivotal in keeping their lead intact.
The game kicked off with an early strike from Ademola of KRP, scoring the first goal in under two minutes, putting his team in the lead. However, Daniel from PoH responded with an equalizer before the end of the first half.
Tensions ran high as an own goal favored KRP, giving them a 2-1 lead at halftime. But fate took another turn in the second half when KRP conceded an own goal, leveling the score 2-2.
PoH found their breakthrough 10 minutes before the final whistle, netting a decisive third goal despite five minutes of added time granted by the referee.
The match, organized by Lighthouse Rescue Sports Outreach (LRSO), demonstrated a high level of skill and determination from both sides. Geoffrey Bottson, President of LRSO, praised the players’ talent and resilience, while also acknowledging the challenges faced due to the lack of sponsorship.
The Lagos Christian Cup final will be remembered as a thrilling display of football that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very last minute.
