Simon Lalong, the senator representing Plateau South, has called on President Bola Tinubu to appoint a new minister to fill Plateau State’s vacant ministerial position. Lalong, who was previously appointed as the Minister of Labour and Employment by Tinubu, resigned from the position after the Court of Appeal declared him the duly elected senator representing Plateau South.
During a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, on Monday, Lalong expressed concern over the prolonged absence of a minister representing the state in the federal cabinet. He emphasized that it has been seven months since Plateau has been without a minister, a situation he described as unfair.
“It is not fair that Plateau has been without a minister for the past seven months,” Lalong stated, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He urged the president to address any obstacles preventing the appointment and to ensure Plateau receives its constitutional entitlement to representation in the federal executive council.
Lalong expressed confidence that President Tinubu, who he described as a democrat who listens to his people, will take action upon his return from his current trip abroad to ensure that Plateau State is represented in the federal cabinet.
In addition, Lalong voiced his disappointment over the refusal of the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly to swear in six APC members, despite a court order mandating their induction.
Diket Plang, the senator representing Plateau Central, also spoke at the meeting, encouraging APC members to unite and work towards securing victories in the upcoming local government elections in the state.
