The Dr. Isa El-Buba Foundation has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic collapse of the two-storey Saint Academy school building in Bussa Buchi, Jos, Plateau State. The collapse has resulted in the loss of numerous lives and injuries to many students and teachers.
While visiting today to see the spot of the collapsed school building, the Foundation extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the people and government of Plateau State, and all those affected by the devastating incident. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this difficult time,” the statement read.
The Foundation urged authorities and stakeholders to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse and to take immediate, proactive steps to prevent such occurrences in the future. “The safety and well-being of our children and educators must remain paramount,” it emphasized.
Commending the swift response by the Plateau State government and local residents in supporting rescue efforts and covering the medical expenses of victims, the Foundation called on governments, communities, and public-spirited individuals to continue supporting the affected families and the injured. “Indeed, this is the time to stand with Plateau,” the statement added.
The Foundation pledged its support and resources to assist in any way possible, emphasizing the need for collective action to ensure that schools are safe and conducive for learning. It also urged educators to take extreme caution and seriousness in looking after the lives of children entrusted to their care.
Furthermore, the Dr. Isa El-Buba Foundation called on the Plateau State government to mandate and support the relocation of settlements dangerously situated around the riverbank of Bussa Buchi, near the school collapse site, to prevent an impending double tragedy of more devastating magnitude.
“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, may the injured recover quickly, and may future catastrophes be averted,” concluded Mrs. Deborah El-Buba Atubi, Executive Director of the Dr. Isa El-Buba Foundation.
