The Gideon and Fumi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, along with a delegation from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Plateau State, paid a condolence visit today to the family and Muslim community mourning the late Sheikh Lawal A. Abubakar, Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque, Plateau State.
The delegation, led by CAN Chairman Plateau State, Very Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo, and The Revd. Dr. Gideon Para-Mallam of the peace foundation, was received by Turakin Jos and Deputy Chairman of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Garba Abdulkadir, at the residence of the late Chief Imam in Jos.
Among the delegation were Prof. Funmi Para-Mallam and other women leaders from the CAN Women’s Wing, who also extended their sympathies to the widows of the late religious leader.
Presenting a token of support and a condolence letter to the family, Rev. Dr. Gideon Para-Mallam expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar. He highlighted the late Chief Imam’s role as a beacon of wisdom and a pillar of the community, noting his dedication to promoting peace, unity, and spiritual guidance.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of your beloved husband and father, Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar, the esteemed Chief Imam of Jos. The Board, staff, and associates of the Gideon & Funmi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation empathize with you at this very difficult time. His contributions to our society will be remembered with the highest regard and deepest appreciation,” Rev. Dr. Para-Mallam stated, presenting a token as a show of support.
Very Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo, on behalf of CAN Plateau State, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family, urging them to see the death of their father as the will of the Almighty God. He prayed for the Almighty to grant them the fortitude to bear this great loss and for the soul of the departed to rest in peace.
Responding on behalf of the family, Sheikh Nasser al Falaki Sharif, Deputy Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque, thanked the delegation for their visit. “Alhamdulillah, we thank Allah for this sympathized visit from this great foundation. We are together with the Para-Mallam Foundation and CAN in general, preaching peace and bringing people together. We are very happy with this condolence visit and pray to Allah to give us the strength to continue preaching peace,” he said.
Describing the late Chief Imam, Sheikh Sharif noted, “He was a nice person, always bringing people together and preaching peace. We worked together for over 20 years, and he was always dedicated to unity.”
The visit included other respected leaders of CAN in Plateau State and members of the Gideon and Fumi Para-Mallam Peace Foundation, underscoring a shared commitment to peace and unity in the community.
The late Chief Imam of Jos Central Mosque in Plateau State, Sheikh Lawal Adam Abubakar, reportedly passed away at the age of 80. The renowned cleric was confirmed dead on Thursday at a private hospital in Jos, after battling a brief illness and has been buried on Friday according to Islamic rites.
