The highly anticipated ninth season of Big Brother Naija is set to premiere on July 28, featuring housemates entering the competition in pairs for the first time.
In an electrifying media briefing held on Tuesday in Lagos, hosted by Uti Nwachukwu, prominent figures from the Multichoice media space gathered to unveil details of the new season. Attendees included John Ugbe, CEO of Multichoice West Africa; Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa Multichoice; Caroline Oghuma, Executive Head of Corporate Affairs, West Africa Multichoice; and Tope Oshunkeye, Executive Head of Marketing, West Africa Multichoice.
Dr. Busola Tejumola kicked off the event with a welcoming address, stating, “Welcome to another roller coaster season. Big Brother has gone beyond the realm of TV. It is, without a doubt, the biggest reality TV show in Africa. Every season brings unique excitement, drama, and unforgettable moments, and I am proud to say that this season will be no different.”
Tejumola announced a stellar lineup of sponsors for this season, including Guinness as the gold sponsor. Other sponsors are Munch It, Colgate, Airtel, Dano, Amatem, Nexus Appliances, Travel Beta, Morning Fresh, and Innoson Motors.
During the Q&A segment, Tejumola assured fans that while the core format remains unchanged, there will be plenty of new twists and turns. For the first time in Big Brother Naija history, housemates will enter the house as pairs. “The selection criteria haven’t changed, but this year we asked for pairs to enter—friends, besties, family members, spouses. Everything else is about the personalities of the pairs we auditioned. The format remains the same, but creativity has been cranked up this season.”
This season promises an even bigger spectacle, with a grand prize worth ₦100 million and a brand-new SUV. The house design has been completely revamped, offering a fresh and exciting environment for the contestants. Additionally, a new and improved DSTV app will enhance the viewing experience, making it easier for fans to support their favorite housemates. Voting for contestants will be conducted on the DSTV app and website, with voting limits based on individual subscription packages.
Oshunkeye announced a promotional offer for DSTV and GoTV decoders, available at N22,000 and N19,900 respectively, running until the end of the season on October 6. He also introduced an exciting viewer engagement game called “Lock-in,” allowing viewers to predict winners of immunity challenges, with each correct prediction earning N1 million.
Adding to the excitement, “The Buzz,” an exclusive Big Brother Naija show hosted by Toke Makinwa, will return, offering behind-the-scenes insights and more.
Big Brother Naija Season 9 will premiere on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 7 PM West African Time on all Africa Magic channels, followed by the live show on channel 198 on DSTV and channel 48 on GoTV. The show will run for 71 days, concluding on October 6, 2024. The theme of the season will be unveiled on the night of the premiere, setting the tone for what viewers can expect. The show will also be available for streaming on Showmax.
Ahead of the premiere, a pre-season event will be held at Ikeja City Mall (ICM) on July 20, 2024, offering fans a unique Big Brother experience. “We’re setting up a house similar to the Big Brother house and inviting fans to join us for an immersive experience with cameras, parties, and more, alongside our sponsors, Guinness and Smirnoff,” organizers announced.
With all these exciting developments, Big Brother Naija Season 9 is set to captivate audiences once again, delivering unparalleled entertainment and drama. The countdown to July 28th has begun, and fans are eagerly awaiting the surprises Biggie has in store.
