The Akume Empowerment Foundation (AEF), a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving lives and impacting communities, inaugurated its Plateau State chapter executives today in Jos. The foundation, established by Senator George Akume, aims to address various challenges facing Nigeria.
Senator Akume, a former two-term governor of Benue State and three-term senator representing Benue Northwest Senatorial Zone, also served as the Minister of Special Duties under former President Muhammadu Buhari and currently holds the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
During the inauguration, Mathias Tersoo Gbakaan, National Coordinator of AEF, emphasized the foundation’s commitment to alleviating the suffering of vulnerable Nigerians. He urged the newly appointed executives to uphold professionalism, transparency, and accountability in their roles.
“Life is a series of decisions, some difficult and complex, others simple and easy. The decision to serve in AEF encompasses all these aspects. It is an honor to serve humanity and our nation, Nigeria,” Gbakaan stated. He highlighted the foundation’s structure, which spans federal, state, local government, and council ward levels, ensuring a broad reach to support vulnerable populations.
The Akume Empowerment Foundation, founded in 2022, operates across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. It was established to extend Senator Akume’s legacy of poverty alleviation and human development. The foundation is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and has coordinators at national, zonal, state, and local government levels.
The foundation’s mission is to enhance the delivery of good governance dividends to Nigerians, reduce poverty, support quality education and healthcare, and promote gender equality and peaceful coexistence among communities.
In his acceptance speech, Comr. Emmanuel W. Goladi, Plateau State Coordinator, praised Senator Akume’s philanthropic contributions and expressed optimism about the foundation’s potential to improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable in Plateau State. He called on Plateau State indigenes and his team to embrace the initiative responsibly to ensure its success.
Former National Coordinator of CPO, Hon. Pamson Dagyat, and Labour Party Plateau State Chairman, Comrade Solomon Ndam, also commended Senator Akume’s efforts and emphasized the need for more empowerment initiatives in Nigeria’s middle belt region.
The event concluded with the administration of the oath to the newly inaugurated executives and the presentation of certificates of office.
