The Plateau Council of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has announced its readiness to join the national secretariat and other state councils in a peaceful protest against the prevailing economic hardships faced by Nigerians.
Scheduled to commence on February 27th and last for two days, the nationwide protest was declared by the NLC on February 16th in response to the widespread economic challenges encountered by citizens across the country.
Despite rumors circulating about possible cancellation due to security concerns, Mr. Eugene Manji, Chairman of the Plateau NLC, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos that the state council had concluded arrangements for the protest.
Manji affirmed that the state executive council had conducted a meeting where all necessary preparations were made, urging all NLC affiliates to mobilize their members for the protest slated to occur on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We have just completed the meeting for the final mobilization. As I speak to you, we are still at the venue of the meeting, and we are going ahead with the protest tomorrow,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of mass participation, urging all affiliates to come out in solidarity with workers and the suffering masses.
In response to concerns about security during the protest, Manji assured that adequate security personnel would be deployed to prevent any potential hijacking of the protest by hoodlums.
He further disclosed plans for the NLC to hold a meeting with security agencies later on Monday to finalize the security arrangements for the protest.
