The Plateau State Government has taken a significant step towards enhancing security and communication within the region with the inauguration of the Security and Information Centre (SIC). This new initiative aims to empower residents by providing them with a platform to report security-related incidents in their localities.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, while inaugurating the centre, highlighted its pivotal role in bridging the communication gap between the government and the public. He emphasized that the establishment of the Security and Information Centre is a crucial measure that will facilitate swift responses to security challenges faced by Plateau State.
In recent times, Plateau State has been grappling with security concerns, as underscored by the unfortunate loss of more than 300 lives since Governor Mutfwang assumed office. A significant number of these casualties have been recorded in communities situated within the Mangu Local Government Area.
The Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency (PICTDA) has taken the lead in creating this proactive solution. One of the innovative features of the centre is the introduction of a toll-free hotline, designed to encourage the seamless sharing of critical information related to security matters.
The Security and Information Centre is already operational and poised to play a pivotal role in gathering early warning signals, allowing the government to swiftly intervene and mitigate potential threats. Beyond its security-focused mandate, the centre will also serve as a platform for collecting feedback on various developmental issues affecting the state. This feedback mechanism will facilitate informed decision-making and enable the government to take appropriate actions to address the concerns of its citizens.
The launch of the Security and Information Centre signals Plateau State’s commitment to fostering a safer environment for its residents. By promoting active citizen participation and engagement, the state government aims to enhance security measures and effectively address emerging challenges. This initiative stands as a testament to the government’s determination to collaborate with its citizens in the pursuit of a more secure and prosperous Plateau State.
