An individual identified as Idris Baba Hassan has been handed a two-year prison sentence by the Minna Chief Magistrate Court 1 in Niger State for engaging in impersonation.
The verdict was delivered by Chief Magistrate Adamu Abubakar and stems from Hassan’s fraudulent act of impersonating the secretary of the National Assembly and State Assembly Elections Tribunal (NAEPT), Minna, Usman Mohammed Jankoli.
It was gathered Hassan of the Kusfa area of Suleja LG, fraudulently demanded gratification from litigants who have cases before the tribunal.
He was arrested by the operatives of the DSS attached to the Tribunal and was charged to the Magistrate Court1 on Thursday by Abdulmalik Sani
It was learnt that the imposter used his phone number 08181810017 to call and demand gratification from unsuspecting petitioners.
The suspect was arraigned on one count charge of impersonation and contravening section 132 of the penal code law of Niger State.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant was arrested in July, 2023 while parading himself as the secretary to the Niger State NAEPT in Minna, and demanding gratification from litigants.
The defendant, pleaded guilty when the charge was read by the presiding Chief Magistrate, Abubakar, who sentenced him to two years imprisonment or an option of N100,000.
