Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke on Sunday, received Super Falcons stars, Rasheedat Ajibade and Rofiat Imuran during their visit to Nigeria shortly after their exit from the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Recall that Nigeria was kicked out of the tournament last week after a 4-2 penalty shootout defeat against England in the round of 16.
Both Ajibade and Imuran were among the players who returned to the country after the painful exit from the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Governor Adeleke, however, on Sunday played host to Ajibade and Imuran in Ede, his hometown. A video of the Governor dancing with the two players first went viral on Sunday before the Osun helmsman tweeted about hosting the two players, who are from the state.
“This morning (on Sunday), I received Osun State-born Nigeria Super Falcons players, Rasheedat aefforts during their time in the tournament and restated our administration’s commitment to the growth of the girl-child and sports development in Osun State,” Adeleke said.
Governor Adeleke had earlier reached out to Ajibade to congratulate her on her appearance in Nigeria and also arrange for the reception.
After missing the opening goalless draw against Canada, Ajibade put in a great shift for the Falcons’ remaining games in the competition. She assisted two goals in the 3-2 win over co-hosts Australia and also scored a penalty in the shootout loss to England.
Imuran, on the other hand, was an unused substitute throughout the tournament.
