The removal of President Ali Bongo from office by military officers has elicited global attention, with concerns centered on the stability and security of the country.
We had earlier reported that Bongo was removed from office by military officers days after he was elected for a third term in office.
The decision to seize power was announced by the military officers on Gabonese national television, Gabon 24 television channel.
The coup leaders dissolved all the institutions of the republic, the government, the Senate, the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court.
According to Al-Jazeera, China, in its reaction to the development, charged all sides involved in the coup to guarantee the safety of President Bongo.
The foreign ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin said, “We call on all sides in Gabon to proceed from the basic interests of the country and the people, resolve differences through dialogue, (and) restore normal order as soon as possible.”
