UEFA Champions League has named the top five midfielders in Europe.
According to FIFA, Joao Mario, the Benfica midfielder, has topped the list.
The list was released after the first legs of the UEFA Champions League Round of sixteen were completed on Wednesday night.
Benfica defeated Club Brugge 7-1 on aggregate after two-legged matches in the round of sixteen with Mario in the Portuguese midfield.
The Portuguese champions beat the Belgian side 2-0 away in Belgian and thrashed Scot Parker’s side 5-1 in Portugal to book a place in the quarter-finals.
Mario scored 273 points to beat his closest rival, Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich, who came second on the list.
Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund scored 194 points to come third joined by fourth-placed Florentino of Benfica with 175 points and Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde with 172 points.
