Tin City Fashion Week has kick-started its 2022 fashion week in Grand style as it set to unveil a 2023 fashion collection.
The event took place on Tuesday 15th November at the Novel Suits and Resort Rayfield Jos, plateau state.
Mrs. Christabel Bentu CEO of Tin City Fashion Week in her welcoming address stated that the program is designed to educate fashion designers and models on the basics of the fashion industry.
“We aim to help participants understand the fashion industry, applying our culture, creativity, and knowledge of the echo system, not just to make a profit but to drive trends and promote the African Nigerian culture.”
Declaring the program open the guest speaker Mrs. Judith Ogdeggbe spoke on ” originality the melting pot of ideas”. She urged participants to not be ashamed of who they are and to be authentic in all they do, adding that ‘imitation is limitation’.
“Dare to be original, all good things come from originality, don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do it because you can”
” As you walk the Walk of Fame carry your culture with you and honor it. A time will come when we (Plateau culture) will not only improve our art but also our way of life.”
The first speaker, Mr. Victor Audu speaking on the topic “understand the fashion industry” emphasized on the need to know and understand the ecosystem in the field of fashion knowing the various levels in the industry.
He explained the concept of fashion and design, the principles, the fashion business, the value chain mechanism, knowing your position in the industry, the fashion ecosystem, international fabrics, and the opportunities and challenges in the fashion industry.
” Fashion designing is all about style it’s the statement of self that help Express our personality, mood, occupation, religion, occasion and to impress”
According to him “fashion is what you buy, style is what you do with it, be different”
Speaking on ‘creating value’ Mrs. Funmi Adefekan stated that fashion designing is the ability to think outside the box to create something new and an identity.
“Fashion is putting together passion, knowledge, and money”
“What you are passionate about is what you acquire knowledge on to be able to create value and make profit out of it”
” Business is not making money it’s creating value, value for employees, partners, your brand, and customers”
She added that the key to creating value is availability, acceptability, and affordability.
Mrs. Funmi concluded by saying ” if you are not ready to be used, you can’t be useful to yourself and your society”
Emphasizing the need to put value before profit.
“You don’t know who is watching to see what you do, how you do it, how you carry yourself, and how well you deliver, even when there is no profit”
The highlight of the event is the level of interaction and feedback from the participants making the program very interesting and engaging.
The CEO of TCFW giving her closing remark asked the participants to take all that has been taught and infuse it into their modeling and fashion designing career and also bring out their A game on the TCFW runway that is set to hold on Saturday 19th November 2022 at the Elial Centre, Gold, and Base Rayfield Jos, Plateau State.
