In a bid to drive awareness and persuade more Nigerians to get involved in electing their political leaders, a Catholic priest, Reverend Evaristus Bassey, has disclosed his plans on social media.
Reverend Bassey tweeted on Thursday he wants to bar people who are eligible to register for Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) yet are yet to do so, from giving offerings in his parish.
Bassey, who is the Parish Administrator of St. Mary Pro-Cathedral, Calabar, Cross River state, wrote: “I want to enforce No PVC No Offering in my parish. I want to check something .”
The cleric had people who backed his suggestion: “Fr abeg please do it!!! In my office in 2011 anyone without a voters card was not allowed to participate in political discussions. We drew up a timetable for people to go & register so there was no excuse. The first news in the Catholic Church bulletin should be PVC,” one tweep wrote.
When another person recommended “No PVC no communion ,” Reverend Bassey countered, “No I want sthg that affects everyone. Not everyone takes communion ”
And to the tweep who cautioned, “Father, no try am oooo. Hungry no dey fear your face ooooo,” the Priest offered a reminder, “We are lockdown survivors”.
