Convener of the 2022 Plateau Cultural Carnival, Debrah Jalmet, has said this year’s event is conceptualized and packaged to boost cross-cultural understanding, love, societal advancement, security and ethno-religious unity.
Speaking with newsmen in Jos on the carnival, Jalmet said the event will undoubtedly have an impact on the society, as the youths would be significant beneficiaries due to their strategic position in society.
According to her, the event will be held this Friday, at the Crest Hotel in Jos and participants are expected from across the 17 local government areas of the state.
“The Plateau Cultural Carnival is more than an event. We envision it to be a way of life, because our cultural values must be imbibed in our everyday life and activities. Our culture is gradually fading out. This is why we invite all custodians of culture, Plateau people, organizations and the government to actively participate in the event”, she explained.
She further explained that “this event is everybody’s and we want the people to run with it and to be part of this laudable event. The aim is not only to project the Plateau to the national and international community in a positive light but also to encourage the unity of all the cultures and traditions on the Plateau.”
“More importantly”, she also said, “is that the carnival is targeted at boosting the ethno-religious unity in the state, which has become a much-needed factor today. It will boost the security of the state and uplift the youths as that is also a significant aspect of the event.”
She called on all and sundry to endeavor to be part of the carnival, because it has a variety of events lined up, as participants and invited guests, will surely be treated to pertinent and superb entertainment, information and enlightenment.
