Members of the Joint Task Force of Operation Safe Haven arrested and paraded members of various criminal syndicates in Jos.
The suspects paraded included one Adamu Umar who was said to have lured Zuwaria Mohammed wife of Rabiu Mohammed around 7 am within Guratop in Rayfield.
Adamu Umar claimed to have some items to sell to the victim only for him to later hold her captive and demanded a ransom of 2 million Naira from her husband to effect her release. The husband reported to OPSH and was advised to agree to pay the ransom and a collection point was agreed on. Security troops stormed the location, arrested the abductor and rescued the victim. The kidnapper is also said to have been arrested on 2 separate occasions in the past and is on the wanted list of the police anti kidnap squad.
Furthermore, troops of OPSH also arrested an armed robber along Bida bidi – Zaria road in Jos North LGA. While others were neutralized during a gun duel.
A locally fabricated AK47 rifle was recovered with 2 rounds of 7.62mm. as another 4 armed robbers were arrested at Rayfield and dung village with 3 locally fabricated pistols.
Similarly, 5 gunrunners were apprehended at Zololo Junction, Zaria road and Agwan Rimi with 2 locally made pistols and one AK47 rifle. Others are members of local militia groups linked to recent attacks within the joint operation area.
This series of arrests is in line with the chief of defence staff directive for operation accord 2 which is meant to deny criminals freedom of action as well as clear criminal and militia hideouts within the joint operation area. The security men went on to assure all law-abiding citizens of their safety as they continue to assist OPSH by providing credible information.
