Plateau State Government had on Monday declared a 7day total lock down starting on Thursday Midnight in the state to prevent the spread
of the dreaded COVID-19 Pandemic.
State Governor, Simon Lalong while making this declaration said the situation on ground has made it madatory for government to take such proactive step even as the state is yet to record any case of the virus. Lalong also said the state will use the lockdown to fumigate and disinfect all 17 local government areas is the state.
The Lockdown order imposed took place on Thursday midnight of 9th April as Governor Lalong also flagged off the the much anticipated coronavirus fumigation exercise at the Terminus
roundabout where he disclosed that the State Government has taken
several steps aimed at ensuring that the disease does not come into the
State.
Our team while monitoring the level of compliance visited four local government areas in the state, Jos North, Jos South, Riyom and Barkin Ladi LGAs. All areas visited had high level compliance even beyond some of our exceptions. Major streets were deserted and the famous Jos City centre was more of a ghost hive with just security personals at junctions. Streets were deserted and all forms of activity even walking on the street was far from a wish with markets locked indicating high level of sensitization to the public on the lockdown order.

In all the places visited, the level of compliance was impressive
excepted for few arrest in some local government of violators of the lockdown order who were
convicted and penalized to serve as deterrent to others.
