Disbandment of Almajiri System in Plateau, Lalong Inaugurates Committee (PHOTOS)

 

Plateau state Government has today 24th April, 2020 inaugurated a committee on the ban on Amajiri System in Plateau state.

Plateau state Governor Simon Bako lalong, who was represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Prof Danladi Atu, Said this was in realization of the Social challenges associated with the and the accelerating impacting of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Northern States Governors’ Forum at its meeting held on 21st April, 2020 unanimously ban the system and that the children be evacuated to their respective States of origin.

In furtherance to this collective decision, Governor Lalong has directed the immediate profiling and return of all the Almajiris from the State to their respective States of origin to reunite with their families or guardians

Consequently, the Governor approved the setting up of a Committee to execute the assignment, with membership as follows:

The committee was inaugurated with the following terms of reference

  • To search and establish records of Almajiris within Jos-Bukuru Metropolis and other parts of the State.
  • To identify the indigenous Almajiris and recommend appropriate measures for enrolment into conventional and registered schools, Vocational Training Centers or Islamic Institutions; 
  • To identify the category of Almajiris from other parts of the Federation or neighbouring countries recommend them for return to their various States or counties of origin
  • To identify and recommend any Community Leader, Parent or Cleric who resists the ban on Almajiri in the State for appropriate disciplinary action;
  • Any other responsibility critical to the realization of the set objectives.

It is hoped that the Committee will work assiduously towards achieving the desired results in the interest of the Children and the State at large.
