Covid-19 Lockdown: Adamawa police storm NUJ, molests Council Chair, arrests Journalists

Police of the Special Anti
robbery squad,SARS,has on Thursday evening following a lockdown stormed
the Adamawa State Press center in three Hilux vehicles led by the DPO
Jimeta Division molested and arrested some staff of the center.

Journalists filing in reports to their respective organizations were
chased out of the press center and the police arbitrary arrested many
people.

The Police also arrested a Lawyer, Bank Manager, Controller of
Federal Inland Revenue and a Medical Doctor playing long tennis at the
premises of the Press Center.

Our correspondent in Yola, who witnessed the act at the Press Center
and took to his heels and escaped been arrested,after which the State
Council Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Donald Dedan whom was at the center
called on him reports that, the arrested people were taken to the State
Police Headquarters in Yola.

Comrade Dedan, told Radio Nigeria that, he was at the press center to
ensure that no clubbing is taking place as the lockdown law stated when
the Police came into the premises.

“I saw someone calling on the police through phone at the gate of NUJ
Press Center, then within short period of time, I saw three Hilux of
Police came into the premises and started molesting anybody”.

The Council Chairman said, a Police Sergeant attempted to slap him but cautioned the Police on his attempted action.

According to him, some used sticks while others used there guns to beat those arrested before there were pushed to the vehicle.

He said, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Audu Madaki, directed for immediate release of the people arrested.

Comrade Dedan said, action of the NUJ would be determine following
conclusion of an emergency meeting by the State Executives Council
Friday.

This was the second time within this week that Police storms NUJ Press Center, Adamawa State molesting people.
