Coronavirus: Plateau LG Distributes Two Trucks of Food Items as Palliative

In order to cushion the economic impact of the novel coronavirus,
address hunger crisis and malnutrition among the poor, the Management
Committee Chairman of Riyom LGC, Plateau State, Hon. Mafeng Gwallson on
behalf of the Council shared two Trucks loaded with food items to the
people in the area.

Hon. Gwallson said the food items were being shared across the 17
Wards in the area and targeted to reach the most vulnerable in the
grassroot.

He said though Plateau State is yet to record a case, the Council is
not unaware of the challenges being faced by the people at this critical
time.

He said with the State being on lockdown, economic, social
and religious activities are being grounded and it becomes expedient to
assist the people with palliatives having seen their plights.

He said the palliative is also aimed at encouraging them to have food
as they begin the farming season and reduce the impact of the monstrous
scourge.

He said the gesture is exclusively coming from the Council even as they await Federal and State intervention.

Hon. Mafeng said the food items were to be shared to the most
vulnerable in the area excluding beneficiaries of the Social
Intervention Programme (SIP) and civil servants.

He said Ward Councillors, Traditional Leaders, Religious Leaders and
NGOs are responsible for sharing the items. He urged them to ensure
transparency and accountability in the sharing to the targeted persons.

He lauded the people for the impressive compliance with the lockdown
order urging them to stick to all safety, preventive and other
directives by NCDC, WHO and government at all levels aimed at the
prevention and containment of the virus.

He said he has directed the distribution of 160 bags of food items to
crisis ridden areas in the Local Government to provide succour to
people affected by violent crisis.

Speaking on behalf of the Legislative arm the Leader, Hon. Moses
Dachung Dadon appreciated the decision taken by the Council Boss to
alleviate the sufferings of the people.

Some beneficiaries of the food items couldn’t hide their joy and
described the gesture as well thought considering the global hardships
being faced by humanity on account of COVID-19 Pandemic.

Items distributed were 240 bags of Rice, 240 Bags of Beans, 240 Bags of Maize and 240 Bags of Garri.

The event took place at the Council Secretariat after which the
Chairman took an assessment visit to the border entry point at Sopp to
assess the level of compliance with the Lockdown directive of the State
Government.
