The Federal Government has given directives for the entire
country to take preventive measures to safeguard the lives of the
citizenry amid ravaging Covid-19 Virus Pandemic. The Plateau state Government followed suit with a state broadcast delivered by the state Governor Simon Lalong calling on citizens to be more proactive with social distancing and prohibiting gatherings, hawking and trading except for essential services.
The
General public is aware of the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the entire
Globe but it has been difficult getting Nigerians to adhere to the various parameters set by government to contain the spreed of the pandemic. Plateau State has not been left out in its fair share as citizens are not in full compliance given that the state is yet to record any case of the outbreak.
Plateau state Governor has said that “in view of the crowds associated with markets, government is directing
all markets to close effective 25th March 2020. Only traders selling
food items, pharmaceuticals and cooking gas are to remain open. In
addition, all street trading, street hawking, and begging are
prohibited. The weekly Sunday markets at Ahmadu Bello Way, Bukuru and

A walk around the city center in Jos Plateau state on Thursday Afternoon show little compliance as some persons not providing essential services where seen on the streets. Though some shops where closed and parts of the business community deserted it left much to be desired considering the stay at home order by the state government.
It was also revealed as at the time of this report that security personnel were deployed to ensure compliance if not most shops will still be open.
Citizens in Plateau state are still finding it difficult to adjust to the recent recent directive as the state is yet to record any case of the Pandemic given the slow attitude towards compliance.
