Police stormed the Open Arms Ministries in the middle of a church
service to arrest the Head Pastor for flouting the ban on public
gatherings in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana.
Apostle Kofi Nkrumah Sarkodie was arrested by the Ashanti Regional
Police Command for holding a church service at North Suntreso in Kumasi.
When police arrived, members attempted to ignore them and continued
singing praises. However, when the officers tried to arrest their
pastor, the members put up a resistance and clashed with the uniformed
police officers.
In a video shared online, church members can be seen booing the police officers as their pastor was bundled into a waiting van.
This comes days after Ghanaian President Akufo-Addo announced
measures to ensure that the novel Coronavirus does not spread further in
the country. These measures included a ban on social gatherings.
