LaLiga suspend season indefinitely as coronavirus kills over 2,000 people in Spain

LaLiga suspend season indefinitely as coronavirus kills over 2,000 people in Spain?

LaLiga and the Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) have decided to
suspend the rest of the football calendar in Spain as more deaths are
being recorded due to the coronavirus pandemic.

LaLiga and the Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) made the announcement in a joint statement on Monday.

Football activities in Spain had been postponed for two weeks due to
the spread of the coronavirus with April 3 set as a resumed date.

According to La Liga and the Spanish football federation (RFEF),
there will be no professional football in Spain until the country’s
political leaders give the go-ahead.

A joint statement read: “The Monitoring Commission established by the
current RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement agrees the suspension of
professional football competitions until the authorities of the
Government of Spain and the General Administration of the State consider
that they can be resumed without creating any health risk.

“Both the RFEF and LaLiga wish to express our greatest public
gratitude to all those who are dedicating their best efforts to provide
essential services to the Spanish people and also share our condolences
for all the deceased and a warm embrace from the world of football to
the many families that are losing loved ones.”

More than 33,000 people have been infected by the virus in Spain, the
second worst affected country in Europe behind Italy, while over 2,180
people have died from it according to the country’s health ministry.
