Nigeria’s Presidency has raised concern, as it
claimed that girls show less interest in Mathematics across and further
advised teachers and parents to redouble their effort to improve the
learning of mathematical science in schools across the country.
Princess
Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, the Senior Special Assistant to the
president on Sustainable Development Goals, (SDGs) who spoke on behalf
of the Presidency stated that girls show less interest in Mathematics as
she appealed to relevant organisations to adequately fund the girl-
child education with a view to reducing street hawking among young girls
in the country.
Also speaking at the SDGs Mathematics
Competition and the crowning of the National Mathematics Queen organized
by National Mathematical Centre (NMC) in Abuja recently, Director of
NMC, Prof. Stephen Onah regretted that the Nigerian girl student has
been placed in a disadvantaged position, especially in the area of
education, which he said, had relegated her in the general scheme of
things.
