Mr Yohanna Gotom, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Plateau Central, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to obey the electoral act and declare him winner of February 25th senatorial election.
Gotom made the call in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Jos.
The candidate wondered why INEC was contemplating supplementary election when, in actual sense, the electoral act would determine the winner.
According to him, there were overwhelming evidences of over-voting, mutilation of result sheets and errors of computation.
“One of the good things President Muhammadu Buhari has done for Nigeria is the electoral act.
“The electoral act is very explicit on these issues; the law says that where there is there is over voting or mutilations of results, it is outright cancellation.
“You can check that in Section 64, subsection seven and nine. I wonder why it is taking INEC so long to declare this result.
“This is a rape of democracy in totality and I want to see that justice, equity and fairness is done.
“I want to assure all the stakeholders who thought they’ve compromised, that the end of the road has come for them,” he stated.
Gotom said that those who voted for the PDP were widows, orphans and the less privilege and that their votes cannot be toiled with.
He said the people voted for hope, good governance and quality representation and that their votes would count.
According to the candidate, there was absolutely no need for a supplementary election and that he was not interested in participating in any.
He urged INEC to, without delay, do the right thing, review the result based on the electoral law and declare the winner instead going for another election.
He stated that going for another election is encouraging and reinforcing illegality.
“I have officially written to INEC highlighting the anomalies that need to be corrected.
“We demand a total review of the result in Kanam Local Government and correction of the 1, 901 votes added to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the summary sheet in Mangu.
“We demand correction of computation errors, outright cancellation of mutilated results and cancellation of over voting in 9 federal wards,” he added
